About Clemson Formula SAE
Since 1998, Formula SAE has operated on Clemson’s campus, dedicated to educating its members, providing hands-on learning experiences, shaping an unforgettable collegiate career, competing at the highest level, and fostering a deep passion for engineering and motorsports. We provide a space for all students of Clemson University to hone their skills in their chosen major and compete at an international level by fostering an appreciation for learning, critical thinking, experiential learning, and teamwork for all students of Clemson University. We represent CECAS and the entire Clemson University student body on an international collegiate stage by designing, building, and competing in the Society of Automotive Engineers Formula SAE Design Competition.
FAQ
What is Formula SAE? We’re a nonprofit student-run organization where, every year, we design and build a formula-style race car and compete across the country.
Where are you located? We have our own shop about 2 miles away from campus that we share with other ME organizations.
What department/college are you a part of? We are part of the Mechanical Engineering Department and CECAS as a whole. We have members in various colleges and are improving our relationship with the Automotive Engineering Department/ICAR.
How much time do you spend every week? About 4 hours/week for general members, depending on leads. You get in what you put out.
Who drives? We run driver trials every year and pick the four fastest members of the team. The only prerequisite is that they must have been a contributing member for at least a year before they can try out.
How many competitions do you have? 5 competitions: Michelin LPG, Formula South, Barnesville, Pittsburgh, and our biggest competition is Michigan.
